His trade series, More Capable, begins with Judgment Call and Lead What Lasts and examines the manager’s job in the AI transition. He also writes the newsletters Dr. Norman’s Management Memes and The OLE Lab Notebook and hosts the interview series Off the Talking Points.
Before joining the academy, he held management roles at Procter & Gamble, US Bancorp, Cargill, Sun Microsystems, and Wells Fargo. He is the faculty founder of the CSUDH Innovation Incubator, where he has mentored more than 40 ventures, and was an Entrepreneurial Lead in the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. A Gallup Certified CliftonStrengths Coach, certified in Stanford’s Designing Your Life, and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), he coaches executives and teams and leads Superior AI Consulting, which helps organizations put AI to work.
He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and an A.B. from Harvard University. His honors include CSUDH’s Outstanding Professor of the Year Award and its Excellence in Service Award. He lives in San Pedro, California.
